Bamboi, Ghana – Afrivoices for Climate Change (AFC), an esteemed non-governmental organisation dedicated to advancing sustainable, regenerative practices in Ghana, orchestrated a momentous dialogue with Bamboi’s community
leaders, igniting hopes for a greener and more sustainable future for the region.
The inaugural dialogue convened on September 10, 2022, followed by a second session on January 20, 2023, congregated traditional leaders, local community representatives, youth leaders, and women’s group leaders. The primary focus of these deliberations centred around the burgeoning impact of climate change on the community and the imperative for concerted mitigation strategies.
During the insightful sessions, participants candidly shared their first-hand experiences of climate change’s encroachment on their community. A shared understanding of the pressing need to raise environmental awareness and foster a unified approach to tackle climate change through regenerative initiatives emerged.
Mr. John Baptist Kabo-Bah, the visionary CEO of AFC, stressed the pivotal role community engagement plays in mitigating climate change and adapting to its challenges. He expounded, “The impact of climate change on our communities cannot be overstated. Together, we can forge a sustainable, verdant future through active participation in agroforestry projects.”
Encouraged to contribute their ideas and recommendations, participants fervently proposed several avenues to ensure the community’s lasting sustainability. These included championing sustainable agricultural practices, embracing renewable energy sources, and implementing robust waste management systems.
Amidst the congregation, esteemed elder Nangor Kwabena expressed profound gratitude for the dialogue, vowing unwavering support for AFC’s noble endeavor to steer the community towards sustainability. “We are deeply grateful for this transformative initiative and wholeheartedly pledge to collaborate with Afrivoices for Climate Change in promoting enduring sustainable practices within our community,” he affirmed. Isaac Siesom and Ibrahim Salamatu, representing the youth and women, respectively, underscored the pivotal roles the younger generation and women play in fostering sustainable practices and actively contributing to the attainment of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
In a spirit of unity and shared purpose, the dialogue culminated in a collective commitment from all participants to collaborate closely in forging a greener, sustainable future for Bamboi community. Afrivoices for Climate Change reaffirmed its resolute dedication to supporting the community’s endeavours to mitigate and adapt to the ramifications of climate change.
